Thank you for taking the time to sign up for one or more focus groups!

This project is being run by the University of Maine. These focus groups will be run by students in the Marketing Research (MKT 378) course. The aim of this focus group is to gain an understanding of the agricultural industry in Maine. Specifically, we are looking at different direct-to-consumer channels that Maine farmers use to distribute and sell their products.

During a focus group session, we will ask you to think about how consumers interact with Maine agricultural producers. Each focus group may have participants from many different backgrounds and professions. Each session will be focused on a specific direct-to-consumer distribution channel: (a) on-farm sales, (b) off-farm sales, (c) Community Supported Agriculture [CSA]/subscription farming programs, (d) online sales, and (e) farmer’s markets. We are only interested in your opinions on these subjects, so even if you have never used the specific channel, we’re interested in hearing from you.

You are invited to participate whether you are a farmer/rancher, part of an organization supporting Maine agriculture and food systems, or as a consumer of Maine agricultural products.

The full project goal is to better understand the preferences of consumers purchasing Maine agricultural products directly from farmers. Your input will directly contribute to shaping the development of a consumer research study, the results of which can be used to provide recommendations to Maine agricultural producers, food system actors, and public agencies about marketing strategies of Maine products sold via direct-to-consumer channels.

MKT 378 is taught by Dr. Rusty Stough, Libra Assistant Professor of Marketing. Collaborating on this project are Dr. Jason Entsminger, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and State Extension Specialist for Small Business, and Dr. Erin Percival Carter, Assistant Professor of Marketing.
