Formula Safety Update
Wednesday, December 17, 2025 | 12:30 to 1:30 pm (ET)
The next Food Safety Virtual Office Hours will provide a timely Formula Safety Update in light of recent industry recalls and heightened public attention. The session will explore the microbiological hazards most relevant to powdered and liquid infant formula, including emerging research on pathogen ecology, contamination routes, and control strategies. Speakers will also highlight historical perspectives that help contextualize today’s challenges and outline how surveillance, manufacturing practices, and regulatory expectations have evolved over time.
Panelists Kristin Schill, Nicole Martin, and Abby Snyder will discuss (1) lessons learned from recent events, (2) scientific and operational considerations for managing microbial hazards in formula production, and (3) priority areas where new research and industry collaboration are advancing formula safety.
Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a moderated Q&A and discussion with a panel of experts. Food Safety Virtual Office Hours are hosted in collaboration with the New York Integrated Food Safety Center of Excellence, and the IFS@CU.
